Calvin had a swimming pool at his home while growing up. He always told the story of how he learned to swim. His dad and brother threw him in the middle of the pool and yelled"now swim".
For his Eagle Project he recovered all the seats in the choir loft at church. This building always held a special place in his heart as his grandfather was the first bishop in that building. Scouting was very important to him and one thing he treasured was going on the worldwide scout Jamboree. I believe it was in Finland. He loved that experience.
I didn't remember that Dad learned to swim that way. He taught me the exact same way. We were at a friend's house and everybody was in the backyard swimming. He told me that he was going to teach me how to swim that day. I was pretty excited until I realized that "teaching me" meant just throwing me in. I guess his teaching methods were successful because I did learn to swim that day.
ReplyDeleteI remember that Dad was very proud of being an Eagle scout. He continued to include it on his resume throughout his whole life.
